Each hole contains two different reeds with one reed tuned an octave higher than the other. Since each hole uses two reeds to play the same note, each hole can only play a single note, unlike most 10-hole harmonicas. When played, the 2-reed approach gives the harmonica a stronger, more full-bodied sound similar to the way a twelve-string guitar sounds compared to a six-string guitar.
